Safe Bones for Dogs and Which to Avoid

Dogs, just like us, like to be kept busy or occupied. Sometimes its too hot, sometimes its too cold, sometimes you just need to delay a walk for whatever reason... Here are safe chews and toys to keep your Dog busy for a while. 

Not all bones are safe. The key is choosing the right ones for your dog’s size and chewing style.

For bigger dogs Himalayan Yak Chews are a winner – they’re super hard, naturally low in fat, and can keep even the biggest of 'power chewers' busy for ages. Smoked Shank Bones are great as the smoky smell makes them appetising without additives. Rabbits Ears are fantastic! A natural dewormer and keep your dog occupied nicely. Larger dogs are great with Chickens Feet and Chicken Necks too, natural goodness and teeth cleaning bonus.

Smaller dogs and puppies often do great with Chickens Feet. They’re softer, full of natural glucosamine for joint health, and the perfect size to avoid choking risks while still giving them that satisfying chew. Chicken Necks are a natural teeth cleaner and they are packed with protein, B vitamins, and minerals like zinc.

Always take the chew away when they’re not chewing or if they decide to not finish it so it stays special and exciting. Also limit how often you provide them so that it doesn't affect meal time.

Some bones are not safe, like cooked bones, which can splinter and cause serious internal injuries. Rawhide chews are especially bad and should be avoided completely – they cause choking, blockages, and are often full of nasty chemicals from processing. Vets are petitioning for rawhide to be illegal.

For younger, smaller or non destructive dogs then Snuffle Mats are fantastic. Get yourself some small Grain Free treats (i use these on my walk everyday) and hide them, a few at a time, in the snuffle mat & watch the fun commence!
